I would venture to say they have less btu's. During the mfg process the volatile oils are evaporated off due to the high heat generated during the compressing process. That's why they burn so clean. Love the way they burn clean.

Hand held seed planter. Has a rotating dial that "clicks". As it clicks it vibrates the seeds forward to the end of the gizmo. Now to make one that delivers pellets slowly to the fire box

Has inserts for different size seeds. I can't recall what the clicker was made of. Maybe there is a photo of it up close in google photos.

That's totally interesting to see a downdraft, down fed stove in action. Seems like it "shouldn't" work well but seeing is believing
I'll have to make plans and come out to your place and see it in person. We can cook up something on a wood burner
