Part II of what I was trying to understand was why the design of the ring, as a folded ring. The "slowing" of the gasses seems to make sense as opposed to attempting to stop them from escaping completely

Have you done a test with a pot w/fluxring and the same pot with it removed? It would be interesting to see data on this. Of course I wouldn't want you to destroy a perfectly good pot for the interest of science.

It would be interesting to do but JB pots are very expensive here in OZ A$110, the flux ring would be difficult to remove without damage to the pot, I also am self funded.
