esbit adjustable simmer burner

Oops56 inspired this one in another thread. Brought a copy of my post over there to this forum just for record keeping.

I got some burn time in today. Rained earlier in the morning. Good day for stoves.

This burner will hold 3 esbit tabs. I used a Monster energy drink can for the main body and one for the flame/oxygen adjuster.

It's been a while since I burned esbit fuel tabs. It was an eye opener to smell them again, they have a strong fishy smell as you open the box and then open an individual packet. I had the garage door open when testing accept when I did the video. A breeze kept the smell going away from me.

Tomorrow I'll test the burner with a pot above it to see how clean it burns. Do a few boil tests. Maybe melt some iron when it's in the high heat mode.

Venturi effect is cool how it makes the flame speed up as it goes through the reduced opening in the burner.

I can blow out the flame at any time and put the cap on the burner to save fuel for another rainy day. Burner can hold 3 fuel tabs in it. Flame adjuster can be closed completely to conserve fuel tabs. Burner with tabs inside can be put into ziploc to lock in odor.

Hey I like the the chimney effect of the the reduced sized opening. Its ability to simmer would make it great for baking too.

You can see how the flame wants to lift-off at certain times. a slight breeze will blow it out in a simmer/reduced flame mode. I came to halt on this design because of it and also I had no way of incorporating a pot support onto it. I like one piece stoves.

Yeah I was sitting in my chair thinking more about how to get that design to have a built-in stand more than anything else while watching it. Only idea I had would be to slip it down inside of a slightly larger can, and than whack off the can do it is only an inch or two above the jet port. That would probably turn it into something larger than I would like to carry though. Still, if something like this could be made short enough to fit underneath the crazy popular trail designs sidewinder, and still have that screaming jet port of crazy hot flames, that could make this potentially a very very fast system for boiling water with esbit. Directed heat, plus the already high temperatures we get from esbit, that could be something worth playing with. Only potential negative (guessing you already know whether this would be correct or not) would be that it probably burns through the esbit cubes crazy fast (???)

Yes, crazy fast burn times. Lots of lost heat due to inability of pots/water to absorb heat fast enough. Up the side of the pot, up and out. I have one design that might work also. It's called the Simmeron. Alcohol stove with one simmer setting. It's located in this forum.
