New Titanium Cone and New Pot Design
New Titanium Cone and New Pot Design
I had Traidesigns make a custom cone for me to fit a pot design I'm working on.
Take a look at them. I did 5 wood burning mode tests yesterday. I am well pleased with the construction of the Cone and pot.
Wood was stacked vertical and top lit. One load boils 3 cups of water in short order. Cone drafts really nice with pot support resting on top of cone.
Pot has dual purpose removable handle(not shown)

That pot is cool and Ill bet that cone puts out some serious fire in woodmode.
I like the cone without the standard handle cutout.
What is the pots capacity?

Yesterday my wife and I went to the park for dinner. We roasted some chicken and veggies in aluminum foil over some charcoal and wood coals. while waiting for the food to cook I showed my wife how the twig stacker works for the cone. She had left a pile of twigs on the picnic table from last week and they had dried out nicely. To say the least, she was well impressed how easy it works. I use a 1" wide circular band of stainless steel that I welded together to form a ring. I had some of these left over from making "ring of Fire" stoves. We had a nice roaring fire going in the little caldera cone for a good length of time. We also had a poor mans campfire going in the stainless steel charcoal lighter container that we used to start a batch of charcoal on fire.
Anything new going on in your neck of the woods related to stoves and wood fires? Cookin any hog meat on the grill?

Re: New Titanium Cone and New Pot Design
I have been real busy lately with stoves. Got some supplies coming and I should be having a sale of some kind very soon. My plan is to make the last 50 or 60 cups that I have left. Hopefully Ill be able to take some nice pictures.
Havent been hunting much but I have been shooting alot. I took a 2 day shooting course from Rod Jenkins and it kind of got me fired up about shooting again

TEST RESULTS
July,3, 2013
Zelphs Fire Pot , Modified StarLyte , 1/2oz denatured alcohol with custom Caldera Cone.
Conditions: 70 degree air and starting water temps.Kitchen environment.
Three tests were performed.
1. 7 ½ min. boil time and continued to burn for an additional 1 3/4min.
2. 7 3/4min boil and continued to burn for an additional 2 3/4min.
3. 8 1/2min. boil and continued to burn for an additional 3 min.
Because the burner has a tight fitting storage cap, it can be snuffed out once the boil is achieved and then capped after it has cooled sufficiently.
CONCLUSION:
The 3 tests show that 2 cups of water can be boiled with less than 1/2 oz of denatured alcohol consistently.

Re: New Titanium Cone and New Pot Design
Sweet Combo setup Zelph. Can use as a woodburner or alcohol. Will the cone fit inside the pot and have the lid attached? Do the pot supports for wood burning mode break down and store inside the pot?

I'll do a video tomorrow to show the cone in wood mode and how the pot support works. Yes, the cone fits inside with the lid on.Ridgerunner wrote:Sweet Combo setup Zelph. This is how it looks inside a campfire using the modified Light My Fire Grandpas Fire Fork as the handle. The handle stores in the pot also. It can be used to roast hot dogs and marshmallows

Hah, oops56 will hear me say "that's hot"

That's a granite cobble stone fire ring. From the streets of Chicago.

Another video showing the flame pattern and how the ring looks holding up a stack of twigs. Also notice the twigs under the grate how well they support it while the stack burns.
