I'm not that old.

We did'nt make em in the midwest. How does it work? and why?

yep. i made them similar as a kid. something i have never forgotten having built. we used to shoot BB's out of them.

see the coiled part of the spring on the below side? pull it like a trigger on a pistol. the arm on top of the half-a-closthepin snaps forward and whacks the end of the match (or BB).

you may have to do a little carving in the notches. so the spring ends act properly. the lower one must stay in place while the upper end must fly free when pressured to do so.
sometimes the sidetracks hold the most rewarding destinations. i had a lot of fun with those clothse-pin BB guns as a kid (i had a shoulder holster, behind the belt, crossdraw, boot-top.) . so much so that i was told to stay out of the laundry stuff.
