edge clamp. (i've got several more modern ones.)
you can secure the unit to the two faces of a piece and press down on the edge.
(or it's some kind of specialty tool that looks identical to an edge clamp ;) )

Hmmm, if not specifically a clamp, perhaps it's a jeweler's or watch maker's vise?

Hi,
I have two suggestions:
First: any tool of the woodturning crafts
Second: A tool that helps you sharpening chisels or similar tools (like plane...) you put it between the two jaws (if that's the right word...) and then go to your sharpening maschine. it's difficult for me to explain in english, but something similiar i'm using
