One of two things..it appears it goes against a bench for pushing probably 3/4-1" stock through so I'd have to say it an edge plane for gluing up tabletop pieces together or if it puts a bevel on the board for making barrels out of small oak boards..or round wood tubs or buckets...
Is it legal to double guess?

It's an adjustable coopers bevel plane. It's adjustable as to the degree of bevel it put's on the boards edge - to match the diameter of the barrel being made.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

The key is it is a plane. Just a side note.....I think it was on 60 minutes last night where these russian kids are sending worms and viruses all over the world and the one thing alot of the dormant worms have in common is that they are supposed to look for further instructions on April 1st. I'm thinking i may not power up the computer tomorrow, not that it will probably make any difference, but maybe it will. What say thee, dlarson ?
