Alcohol simmering through my jets!

Post by » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:40 am

Hello, i have had some trouble with pressurized stoves and alcohol actually simmering out of the jets, would this problem be eliminated with lets say a wick material inside the stove? any other ideas?

I have much more reliable success with "wick-ed" stoves than ones with jets fwiw.

I like stoves with jets. But I believe a wick wold help or the jets being further away from the alcohol level. Really its hard to say exactly without knowing what you are working with.

Sounds like you are over filling. Fuel is expanding due to heat, it rises and oops, out it comes through the jets.

another thing is if you have to cans put together and they overlap and the jets go through 2 thicknesses of can that will cause a capillary action and bring fuel up between the 2 layers of metal and it will then come out the jets.

Also if the stove has a pot put directly onto the stove it seals the top and pressure builds up inside the stove to a point that forces the fuel up between the walls and out the holes. Pressure releif holes need to be added. There are 2 such relief holes in the "cobalt" stove.

Wicked stoves do put out a more even flame all the way around without all the headaches..Yeah..I understand ..jets are cool though..  I imagine that when you say the "alcohol is simmering out the jets"you really mean it's bubbling out and setting the ground on fire.. ;)
